General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI hope that tomorrow, no matter what happens today, is DAY ONE
of a Democratic Party 50-state project to INSURE READY ACCESS TO THE VOTE FOR ALL ELIGIBLE CITIZENS.
This should include:
Measures to eliminate machines that cannot be forensically examined after a vote;
Streamlining of voter registration procedures where needed, including jettisoning Cross-Check and other programs that throw eligible voters off the rolls;
Provision throughout each state of equitable distribution of voting sites, machines, and poll workers so that no population (e.g. Ethnic group, student, or poor voting populations) is disadvantaged or disenfranchised at the time of voting;
Challenges to all state election laws that target specific groups of voters in an effort to suppress their votes (e.g., laws or regulations eliminating Sunday voting to weaken the "Souls to the Polls" activities);
Party-sponsored GOTV assistance with an army of volunteers to help register AND get voters to the polls;
A serious public relations effort to make Republican chicanery re elections well-known and to build public sentiment for DEMANDING that our right to vote is not infringed.
PLEASE ADD YOUR THOUGHTS. THERE IS A GREAT DEAL WE CAN DO (and should have been doing since Bush v. Gore, IMO). Remember John Boehner blathering about our "sacred" right to vote, and today's Republican leadership bleating about all the nonexistent "voter fraud" that is their excuse for suppression? Yeah, they're not going to do the right thing for ALL eligible voters.
It's on us.

(4,751 posts)I seem to be a thread killer, but I'd really like to hear people's thoughts on securing our voting rights.
Cheers, and thanks, again.
