(62,444 posts)There had been periodic controversies over whether early reporting of, say, the presidential election result has the effect of depressing voter turnout in western states, and thus affecting down-ballot races, even if the presidential election is a foregone conclusion.
Hence, the major networks voluntarily decided not to do so, but it is purely voluntary.

(210 posts)Monroe county (heavy Dem) ran out of ballots. Judge gave us an extension until 7 to vote. Cant call all of IN without Monroe (home of IU)
