Gretchen Whitmer projected to win governor's race
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Gretchen Whitmer will be Michigan's next governor, the Associated Press is reporting.
A Democrat from East Lansing, she previously served in the state Legislature and as a county prosecutor.
Her lieutenant governor will be Garlin Gilchrist, who previously worked for the Obama campaign and in Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan's office.
They defeated the Republican team of Bill Schuette, currently the state's attorney general, and Kent County Clerk Lisa Posthumus Lyons.
