You RWers are gonna start with the bipartisan-by-necessity crap and I and others are here to tell you that just like your candidate for the governorship of PA said: we are gonna stomp all over your faces with cleated golf shoes, you lying, hypocritical Motherfuckers.
We are gonna kick your collective asses and toast your nuts on Pennsylvania Avenue so get your affairs in order, assholes and get ready to be pummeled.
Jerkoffs.

(1,414 posts)Everyone knows I'm not game on seeing Nancy as Speaker, but for the sake of peace among us I'll support her. However, I think Nancy is going to play good cop, while she allows Auntie Maxine and Adam Schiff to rip trump and his band of nazis a new asshole.
And let's be clear, I am 100% for government shutdown and putting a stranglehold on the finances of this country. I believe the system is utterly broken, can't be repaired and needs to be destroyed. However, that's not very practical. Winning the House and rebuilding the Blue Wall tells me there is a chance to get this country back on the right path. However getting there will be tenuous.
Those are my thoughts.

(257 posts)Its a chess game right now. Would it be best to obtain those tax returns near the 2020 election? People tend to forget. Can the oversight card be held back as long as Mueller is unfettered?
The first thing I'd like to see is the House hold Trump to his promise of a 10% tax cut for the middle class. Offset it fiscally with a corresponding increase in wealthy and corporate taxation. Make him choose. He'll be trapped between a rock and a hard place. Show the folks who believe this guy who he really works for. Watch him squirm.
Think like his followers. I'm not talking about the nationalists. I mean the good folk you know who still back him. Therein lies his strength. We need to convince enough of them he is a fraud.
Trumps head on a spike isn't the prize. Winning elections is. Don't sacrifice one for the other.

(24,446 posts)The House should try to repeal all or parts of that awful tax scam that the GOP passed
Whiskeytide
(4,463 posts)... Pass a house version of a middle class tax cut that undoes much of the trump tax cuts and preserves medicare and social security - AND CLEARLY AND SIMPLY SAYS JUST THAT, and only that (don't attach a bunch of additional agenda items to it) - so that the Senate republicans and/or trump have to show their true colors - for or against it.
I genuinely believe we can - and should - both lead by popular policy example AND thoroughly investigate the trump administration at the same time.
If WE make this mostly about bringing down trump, it plays into his paranoid fantasies.

(24,446 posts)We have a lot of new, fresh faces coming into the House, some of whom like AOC who are firebrands. Hopefully, they push the leadership to dispense with the comity. Also, unlike with George W. Bush, Trump is a WAY more polarizing figure.

(14,496 posts)The right-wing machine has attacked Democrats and all marginalized sectors of American society with lies and deception for over 40 years, and they've done it 24/7 on various media formats.
IMO, we need a program of counter-attack spots on TV, radio, print media, and social media to awaken our society to truth. I'm thinking 15-second spots on TV and radio and simple truthful black-and-white ads for print and social media.
And, no letting up until we regain control of government and build strong fences around the plutocrats, to whom a very strong message must be sent:
"We shall have our country and government back and it is no longer for sale".......

(315 posts)It seems like they are going on the attack and accusing Democrats and the responsible press of dishonesty, manipulation, inciting violence, misogyny, etc. (all of which the the Trumpers are guilty of) in the hope of keeping their base outraged and of winning back some of the uninformed who might become disillusioned and not vote next time (oh, and they intend to keep that quite difficult to do as well). There will be a few insincere calls for bipartisanship, of course, but mostly they will keep on attacking. It's the Roy Cohn playbook.
I hope that the state legislatures which will have a Democratic majority (New York, for instance) will work to make voting easier to do (same-day registration, easier mail-in options, online voting, etc.)
