The times are changing big time! We have two DFL senators, my district elected its first woman representative, who is also the second Muslim to represent the 5th district (Ellison was the first) and the first Somali-American to represent the district - Ilhan Omar.
Keith Ellison has become the first African-American AG for Minnesota.
Angie Craig has become the first woman to represent that district and the first LGBT mother in the House.
Peggy Flanagan became the first First Nations woman to become the MN Lt. Governor (the eighth woman to hold that office).

(115,683 posts)A gay woman defeated a former hate radio Rush Limbaugh-wannabe. Keith Ellison defeated a virulently anti-LGBT "Christian" right extremist for the AG job despite an attempted setup by an angry ex. Dean Phillips defeated a Congressman who spent seven years avoiding meetings with his constituents. Tina Smith held the Senate seat Al Franken was railroaded out of. And the MN House is now DFL. It was a good night in Minnesota.

(146,288 posts)We also had a 64% turnout of registered voters. That's not high enough, but it's damned good for a midterm election.
Thanks to all my fellow Minnesotans!

(24,926 posts)I'm surprised that the turnout was only 64%. I agree that it's not high enough.
