Arizona Republicans sue to prevent votes from being counted

With the U.S. Senate seat hanging in the balance, the Yuma, Navajo, Apache and Maricopa County Republican parties filed a lawsuit against all Arizona county recorders and the Secretary of State late Wednesday.

The Republican groups are challenging the way counties verify signatures on mail-in ballots that are dropped off at the polls on Election Day, according to the complaint obtained by The Arizona Republic.

At stake is an unknown number of ballots that could tip the result of the U.S. Senate race. Just 17,000 votes separated Republican Martha McSally and Democrat Kyrsten Sinema as of Wednesday evening, a cliffhanger that could take days, if not weeks, to call.

The lawsuit seemed to signal Republicans' anxiety over Thursday's expected posting of additional results from Maricopa County, the most populous area of the state, where Sinema has dominated so far.

A hearing is scheduled for Friday morning in Maricopa County Superior Court, according to Eric Spencer, elections director for the Secretary of State. He said the Republican parties are trying to get an accelerated hearing on Thursday.

To be counted in Maricopa County. Sinema is only 1% behind right now. I live in Maricopa County and my new Democratic Congressman Greg Stanton won easily with a 60% lead in a district where winger Russell Pierce was once a Congressman. Stanton is a Progressive that ran on holding Trump accountable. I think Maricopa County will go for Sinema.

On another note, I have a friend at work who dropped off his early ballot yesterday. He has carpal tunnel and he's been keeping his hand wrapped. He's been having difficulty writing, so I hope his signature doesn't get rejected

We Arizona Dems will be protesting in full force if anything funny starts happening with counting the ballots in Maricopa County. We will make sure every ballot is counted.
