Jon Tester Wins in Montana, Despite Trump's Best Efforts

Before he arrived at the balloon-decorated Holiday Inn in Great Falls, Montana, for his Election Night watch party, Jon Tester was 80 miles away on his farm in Big Sandy, taking the engine out of his ’86 Chevy pickup.

When the race was finally called on Wednesday morning, the engine still had a blown head gasket—but the 62-year-old farmer and two-term Democratic senator had managed to get his political career to turn over one more time.

The outcome had been far from certain. President Donald Trump, enraged that Tester had derailed his nomination of Ronny Jackson to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs earlier this year, had made unseating the senator a personal project. Polls showed Tester and his opponent, Republican State Auditor Matt Rosendale, running neck and neck in the lead-up to Election Day

Voter registration in Montana was at a record high as people headed to the polls, and turnout has surpassed any midterm showing since at least 1994. Gallatin County, a Democratic stronghold in the mostly Republican state, was among the last to report results. The county clerk and recorder, Charlotte Mills, told Montana Public Radio in an interview nearly two hours after the polls had closed that the line of voters at the courthouse was still stretching out of the building. “It’s been out the door and up the block the entire day,” she said.

Tester deserves it. I’ve seem him in interview, he seems to be such a humble guy. He’s doing Montana proud.

I thought he would have helped the Democratic House candidate in Montana win. Seems like Gianforte was re-elected.

the the votes left to be counted were in Dem friendly counties. Tester was a little behind at the time, but it looks like they came through.

My sister has met with him several times, and has nothing but good things to say about him. He is the real deal and it makes me so happy he won!

unsettled yesterday morning until I heard that two blue counties had yet to report. I thought it was the absentee ballots maybe.

I am happy to say that, as a Montana voter who voted for Tester no questions asked, I helped to whip a massive bird to cheatolini. There was heavy investment in ousting Tester with all that "presence" in the state since July. I mean, how many presidents even bother to come to Montana at all? This one came specifically to campaign against Tester FOUR TIMES, jr was here at least three with one lasting over a week on his bus tour and pence was here at least twice. That's a lot of investment in a personal grudge, and we took them to the woodshed for darkening our fine state with their fetid selves. That, along with winning the House is enough for me to feel okay for a while... but I'm really jazzed at how much this Tester win upsets the cheato's ego.
