Go to your polling place.
Check in at your precinct, give your name and address to a person sitting behind a desk that has a log of every registered voter where they cross you off.
That person them hands you a ballot.
Then you take that ballot go to a booth and make your selections by filling in the circles by the candidates name.
Then you take your ballot in hand and go and check out with a person behind a desk, tell them your name and address. They find you on the log and cross you off.
Then you take your ballot and drop it off in the box.
There is a counter on that machine that shows how many ballots were put into the box.
Then at closing they remove those ballots and run them through a scanner to count.
The amount of ballots scanned match the amount of ballots dropped in boxes which match the log of how many people were crossed off the lists as voting (check in and out)
Pretty simple process.
I think it should be like this everywhere.

(30,739 posts)I do have to sign something before they hand me a ballot. Otherwise, it is very routine.

(44,973 posts)So I actually like that better than paper ballots. Votes don't have to be scanned (where error could come from) and I presume can be counted faster. And because it is printing my choices, in case of a recount, the votes can be verified. I think machine with a print out is ideal.

(8,171 posts)in MA I don't think they have it right yet. At least in my town. Hours were the same as Town Hall hours 8:30am-4:00pm and one Saturday 9a-1p. I don't think those hours are very helpful to residents who don't work in town.
Also, no early voting for primaries or local elections.
