... snip
Indictments of Stone, a friend of the president since the 1970s, or worse Trumps son and namesake, seem certain to push the White House into greater paroxysms of rage. What might happen then is anybodys guess. Trumps desperation to shut down the Mueller inquiry before it cuts very close to home is therefore understandable.
Its also a fools errand. In truth, its far too late to shut the Special Counsel down altogether. Mueller and his staff, veterans of Beltway wars, were not surprised by this weeks events. They were prepared. Any efforts by Acting AG Whitaker to block indictments will go public quickly and throw Washington into deep crisis. For Trump, there are no exits or off-ramps left.
When Mueller informs the public of more indictments is an open question. That they are coming, however, is not. And there are lots of them. The Special Counsel has been at work for almost 18 months now. An Intelligence Community official who assisted the Special Counsels investigation told me this week that Team Mueller is holding dozens of sealed indictments of people associated with the president, his 2015-16 campaign, and his administration. Nobody whos close to the Russians is getting out of this, said the IC official. When will those indictments start being unsealed? Watch this space.

(56,828 posts)My senator, Richard Blumenthal, had posted something about Jim Acosta and I had replied that since it's obvious the video the WH shared was doctored and they knew it, it seems like Acosta could have a good case for libel.
Neither one of us follow the other.

(56,828 posts)Though, i had thought that was my ex-wife... I had done a double-take when I saw her name like my response to Blumenthal.
I had a good day yesterday with big names like my tweets - Mark Hamill of Star Wars, Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation), Mensch and one of my resistance crushes Asha Rangappa.

(12,618 posts)Trump knows that the minute he makes a move on him, the indictments come out. So he resorted instead to attacking the investigation itself and riling up his moronic cult followers into believing that it was all a witch hunt.

(5,499 posts)I'm not a big fan of many prosecutorial tactics, such as over charging. Don't get me wrong, I will be cheering on the indictments of all of the people listed, especially Stone and Junior. But if you have the indictments, arrest the people who are indicted and let's get to trial. Seems like keeping them sealed would run counter to a fair and speedy trial.

(1,682 posts)We have no actual information with which to draw any conclusions.
However, I am confident that Mueller, Rosenstein, and the presiding judges concluded a long time ago that the investigation would most likely be ended, or at least impeded. They know what they are doing. They were ready.

(1,002 posts)I mean, given the fact Whitaker has been the WH mole all this time, don't you Mueller is aware of what Whitaker's been doing for the last 2 years??!!

(638 posts)Mueller probably wants Whiteakkker to do something stupid like fire him. It'll make more interesting hearings when the Dems take control in January, he can get hired right away by the New York AG and he just releases the sealed indictments out the door. Checkmate.
