Horrific images from Kristallnacht 80 years ago

Today is the 80th anniversary of https://twitter.com/hashtag/Kristallnacht?src=hash&

A personal story: My grandfather fought in WWII. He never spoke about it, so we didnt know much about his time in the service, but based on the patches on his uniform, we think he did something in intel.— Elisheva Avital (@ElishevaAvital)

I am a little tired of the humorous comments all over the place about what the fuck is going on...

Not only must we not forget it, we must remember that the prelude to a repeat is happening right now.

You know, I am going to KYOTO Sunday am for a week.
I hope like hell there is a country to return to....

RESIST !!!!!!!!!!!

She and her family were on vacation in Switzerland (I don't recall precisely where in Germany they were from) when Kristallnacht happened. He owned some kind of business, and when he called back to it, the employees told him not to return. After a year or so they made it to South America, Brazil I think, where she grew up, married, had a couple of kids. Some years later she emigrated to Canada, where we met up with her perhaps 15 years ago. I'm sure she told us which other relatives did not make it out, but I've forgotten those precise details. What matters is that I, a non Jew, is personally touched by this event through my husband.

We really are all related.

We must never forget. This did not start with extermination camps and burning people in ovens. It started slowly, by demonizing racial minorities and escalated from there. It took years to reach the horror that it finally became. We must always be on guard.

Here is the Twitter account with the photos:

The pictures were taken by Nazi photographers. There is a photo of the back of a couple of pictures with the names of the photographers.

While I always try to hold on to the view of others via the best of human nature. I never forget the depths of the worst of human nature. Then I see this - and realize the depths of the worst of human nature plumb far deeper than I can image.
