From what I have seen I'm impressed. I have not seen this episode yet, but in general I think they are spot on. (I was in Broadcast TV News for over 30 years - and left just as it became "Infotaiinment.)

And yes, this should scare us. Dispossessed people are fleeing wars and starvation and climate change. They are turning up on our door steps and the stupid among us are fearful. They vote for "security" and the right winger play into the fear.

namely because of the last thing in your list of causes: climate change. As larger groups of mass migrants appear, natives in various nations will grow more fearful, will want to guard their resources.

We know the drill. Erratic weather stresses food supplies. Fresh water becomes more scarce. Hostilities increase. Infrastructure falters. Disease gets a foothold. Tribalism soars. Technology wanes.

Those born in the last 15 years lucky enough to reach middle age will be in a much harsher reality than we've known. And they will likely curse us for what we did to them.

"And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?"

Its name is Greenhouse.

No, we haven't been here before. We have a fucking mad man turning the whole world's democracies on it's ear and making hate and white supremacy fashionable again.

Russia is the common denominator in all of this. Why we aren't rising up as one and bombing the shit out of the Kremlin is beyond me. I'm normally against war but I would not mind seeing Putin bombed back to the stone age.

We’ve interfered with Russia and other countries for decades.

Our problem is right here, mostly among white wing racists. Bombing Russia won’t change that.

The white wingers should realize that they were manipulated by the Russians, but they are probably too stupid to care.

If not war, definitely a full trade embargo or something. Russia must be punished and the whole world needs to know it.

Bombing Russia leads to nuclear exchange, leads to the end of civilization. Why annihilate the human species when other options are available.

Politics are in a constant state of flux. The liberal order which has existed from the end of WWII has been very successful in Europe but the mistakes of WWI in the Middle East and Africa were never addressed in any meaningful way and have returned to shake the liberal order to its foundations. How are you going to exploit one region for its oil and another continent for its natural resources and not expect there to be problems?

Rather than understanding the effects of their colonialism, imperialism, and economic exploitation Europe and the US have shifted the blame to the victims and turned rightward into xenophobia and right wing extremism.
