So wouldn't Trump prefer to be impeached then pardoned by Pence rather than have a Dem

get the Presidency and Trump possibly go to jail after he loses re-election, if he gets indicted after he leaves office? With a Dem in office and indictments get handed down he is pretty much screwed other than trying to win the cases.

These scenarios must be going through his mind.

1. Couldn't he resign after the election and still have Pence become the POTUS and give him a pardon?

Even resign in the last 24 hours. I would not put it past either of them. Especially if Trump gives Pence a preemptive pardon too first.

3. But if the indictments haven't been handed down yet there would be nothing for Pence to pardon him

And even if there is no precedent, even if the legal validity is questionable, wouldn't these two sh*tbirds try it anyway?

8. A president can pardon anyone for any federal crime, even if there's no indictment yet.

Except for future crimes and with the likely exception of a self-pardon.

They he resigns before the next President assumes office. Pence, whose political career would pretty much be over by then as well, pardons him. Pence does get his name in the history books as a President.

7. Trump has always evaded responsibility

Why would he change now?

Trump has been able to deny responsibility for all of his failures throughout his life. Why would he think that anything would change now? After all, he's now the "most powerful man in the world" and who could harm him?

Trump won't be removed by impeachment and conviction in the Senate. He'll leave as part of a deal when his criminality is unimpeachable.

(See what I did there?)

9. Being impeached and convicted does not mean that you have committed a crime.

All it means is that the House and the Senate have found you unfit for the office you hold.

Accordingly, impeachment (and conviction) is not a pardonable offense.

You can't be pardoned for having been impeached.

Full disclosure: IANAL. Pay the two dollars.
