@FLOTUS
Today we remember the brave actions of our troops and those of our allies during WWI. Honored to be spending this day honoring heroes in Paris. #VeteransDay

(50,557 posts)They did their own dancing, which is more than Trump and his (what is is, twelfth?) wife would do.

(17,912 posts)Didn't the Russians spend the last months of WWI fighting themselves?

(32,638 posts)But I guess they were still considered among the Allies when the enemy was Germany. Funny how that happens.

(7,772 posts)The German plan assumed it would take weeks for the Russian's to mobilize. Instead, two armies (1st and 2nd) were marching on East Prussia, home to a majority of the German General Staff. The German general in command of the 8th army panicked at the rate of the Russian advance, fell back, resulting in his replacement with Hindenburg/Leudendorff (sp.) . . . and the transfer of the equivalent of an army from the Western advance, said loss of manpower probably allowed the 'Miracle on the Marne' to occur. Ultimately, the toughness of the Russian peasant army was offset by a Russian Stavka (General Staff) lead by those 'pleasing at court' and Prussian 'War of Maneuver' that stressed 'strategic retreat' as an equal to offense . . . plus the Russian's communicating on open wireless and lack of aerial recon . . . lead to Tannenburg, and the Russian's never really recovered. Russian actions through 1917 resulted in a significant shift of manpower from the western to the eastern front for the Germans.
In the end, just like in WWII, the Russian's suffered casualties far in excess of the 'western' allies. The current Russian leader (however objectionable) deserves to be there.

(10,136 posts)put their arms inside the sleeves. I can understand that you don't want to hold Donnie's paw, but please try to remember that you're supposed to be representing your country and not acting out your passive-aggressive feelings. And this is real life: you're not on a runway at some fashion show.
Otherwise, nice outfit for a change - but she's too short-waisted to carry out those belted looks she favors. At least she doesn't look like a slob, like that guy in the red tie next to her.

Oh, and those damn coat sleeves. She should just buy capes with no armholes.
