AOC is not who you may think she is...

Here is what Ocasio-Cortez said to activists:
Should Leader Pelosi become the next Speaker of the House, we need to tell her that we’ve got her back in showing and pursuing the most progressive energy agenda that this country has ever seen.

And

One of the things I admire so much about Leader Pelosi is that she comes from a space of activism and organizing. And so I think that she really appreciates civic engagement. What I’m here to do is to support the folks who are here. …

She supports Pelosi’s bid for Speaker. AOC believes in a progressive agenda, just like Pelosi.
Be proud of these new leaders and support them. They are the future of our Party. We need everyone. Stop buying the bullshit from rightwing media sources.

Sorry it’s Twitter but it’s a good read if you can (follow the whole thread):

If the GOP can dictate what is allowed in a campaign and who is allowed to cast a vote, they have a decent chance of winning.

The funny thing is that even when they get away with that kind of control, their policies and attitudes still make them vulnerable to any district that isn't 75% brain dead.

I suspect that some people here have a hard time accepting that she began her rise in politics by organizing for Bernie Sanders. Get over it. Others got their rise by organizing for Hillary Clinton. It's great that they got involved, it's great that they stayed active, it's great that so many of our future leaders got elected to Congress in 2018. AOC is a strong Democratic Latina voice emerging from a younger generation. She, and others like her, are to be celebrated.

Some people here at DU jump on anything they can to diss Bernie Sanders, or anyone who had anything to do with him.

I'm sick of it. It turns me waaaaaay off to even continue to read here. Talk about a circular shooting gallery.

We need every damn Senator who caucuses with the Democrats. We will even need some Republicans (one can hope)

I was a Bernie Supporter, but (OMG) I voted for Hillary in 2016 Presidential election. But I feel insulted every time I see another huge as thread of why Bernie is so awful.

I also support Pelosi for Speaker. We need her experience in the House, especially for the term that is coming up.

For 2020: I really really really hope that neither Bernie or Hillary decides to run. Clearly both of them cause a huge split within the Democratic party. We don't need that. Divided we fall.

I've never posted anything whatsoever against Hillary, but boy have I read dozens (maybe hundreds) against Bernie.

I'm telling you, it turns me off.

Bernie endorsed her, so some consider her tainted.

The old saying is "people are judged by the company they keep" (not who endorses them) but leaving that axiom aside for a moment... I think her critics are smarter and more reflective and more analytical than you're giving them credit for. Fair-minded and rational people here are perfectly capable of (and appear to have so done) judging someone based on their words and deeds, their mistakes, their failures, their missteps. Also based on whether or not someone is humble and learns from their mistakes and how/if they turn those experiences into success. What I'm trying to point out is that not everything in the world circles back to Bernie and it appears to me that she's being evaluated and measured based on her own merits, not his. That's all.

Personally I think it's a bit strange because Sharice Davids is one of the most exciting and inspirational and motivating candidates to come along in a long time. I'm so very impressed with her and the way she approached her campaign, and how she's handled her victory. She's humble and goes forward into the job with humility and giving the JOB all the respect and attention it deserves. She's doesn't seek attention by courting controversy.

All I'm trying to say here is that I really-really like her. I see great things in her future. Kansas is lucky to have her, and the entire freshmen class of the House is lucky to have her as a role model.

Its like watching us do the GOPs dirty work. And you're right, even candidates that he has endorsed or worked with get tarred with this irrational hatred. Bernie is supposed to be granted the same respect as official Ds as far as DU rules, and I am frankly flabbergasted at how much some get away with bad-mouthing him. He came in second behind Biden, just recently, in Democrats support for running if he did. Even if someone, for reasons I can only guess, despise the man, at least hold your tongue while he energizes and attracts new voters.

I also think Bernie or Hillary should not run. Same reason I think Pelosi should retire at some point soon. Maybe you are right that this is not the best time though, but thats for another thread. We need to show the American public that we are the party of the future. We are. But saying it and looking like it are two different things.

In fact, I think it shits on them to minimize their efforts by refusing to acknowledge their protest to protect Ocasio Cortez. A sit-in is a protest. But this is nothing new. She's always so misunderstood. She never means what she says, or her actions are never interpreted the right way. And now, a protest isn't really a protest. it was support! However, if the conversation DID happen and the subject of the committee came up (since it was a major reason for the sit-in), it's a good bet that Pelosi mentioned that she'd already decided (almost a week earlier) to reinstate the committee. It wasn't a classified secret.

She will do things right. She has potential to be a change agent. The operative word being potential. I hope she understands this.
