Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) reportedly told Sen. Mark Warner (Va.), the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, to back off of investigating Facebook and its role in enabling Russias misinformation campaign in the U.S.
The New York Times reported on Wednesday in a story about Facebooks internal response to controversies over data privacy and Russian election meddling that Schumer told Warner, who has been the tech platforms chief antagonist on Capitol Hill, that he should be trying to cooperate with Facebook instead of scrutinizing it.
A Senate source familiar with the meeting between Schumer and Warner told The Hill that Schumer urged Warner to have the committee focus on issues related to disinformation and future election meddling.
The source said that Schumer was worried that Facebook may "bow to pressure from the right wing, who opposed Facebooks purging of fake accounts and bots."

It has also been reported that Schumer's daughter works for FB.

(35,454 posts)I've been dissatisfied with my SEnator ever since he turned his back on PBO. And he should be ashamed considering that FB used anti-semitic conspiracy theories to smear Soros as a distracting method from what they weren't doing to clean up FB.

(35,454 posts)It's his policies and seeming lack of fortitude when dealing with McConnell. I think Durbin is the better choice and he's 'old guard' too.
