The Kochs and the other nutbags are going to go "scorched earth" for 2020

Last edited Thu Nov 15, 2018, 10:28 PM - Edit history (1)

Not for Donnie Shit for Brains, because they couldn't give one-fuck for him.

No - 2020 is a God Damned Census Year.

They're going to pull out all the stops to be able to "draw the fucking maps".

We'd better be prepared.

The 2020 election doesn't happen until the end of the year and the next bunch aren't seated until 2021. Where am I off here?

Whoever wins control of the state government in the 2020 election gets to draw the district map for the next ten years.

For the next 10 years.

The 2010 election also wasn't until the end of 2010 and the Congress wasn't seated until 2011.

They won Ohio in 2010 and drew the maps so that in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018, Retrumplicans averaged about 49% of the vote, but win 76% of the states representation.

2020 will be the most consequential election of our lives and the least important aspect of it is the presidential race.

and win more. Governors and state houses redraw congressional maps after the Census is taken in late 2020, early 2021.

We passed a ballot proposal here in MI that ends gerrymandering. Put it to the voters all over the country. NC, OH, and FL should be the top targets.

But there are so many loopholes in it that rely on "compromise" and "bipartisanship" from the majority party that it's almost nothing but a feel good plan.

I know it makes people's eyes glaze over, but it's so damn important.

Virginia elected Democrat Ralph Northam last year by 11% (VA is one of those States that has off year elections so their state legislature and governor are elected in odd number years).

Anyway, despite absolutely crushing Retrumplicans in VA in 2017, Retrumplicans still maintained a one seat majority in the state legislature.

It's downright criminal.

Their "Americans For Prosperity" was offering a free e-book on the evils of socialism. Can't be cheap to run something like that, that shows up in everyone's news feed.

back a lot of the ground lost in 2010 and they took a huge hit.

We did very good, and I'd much, much rather be us heading into 2020 than them. The senate will be stacked in our favor this time, and even more of their rotten chickens will have come home to roost.

Speaking of, the death toll from the Paradise wildfire looks like it's going to explode in size the way the fire did. Extreme consequences of Republican obstruction to reversal or mitigation of global warming are on us. And they're going to get worse.
