Toys for Tots suffers with Toys R Us closings.

The demise of the Toys ‘R’ Us retail chain is having a major impact on this year’s U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots collection drive.

The defunct toy store chain was Toys for Tots’ largest retail corporate sponsor from 2004 through 2017. Each year, Toys ‘R’ Us stores, including the one that was in Fort Wayne’s Glenbrook Commons, collected cash donations from customers that came to about $5 million nationwide.

The past three or four years, we have taken a few bucks in to our local Toys R Us and been what they call a "lay away angel". The store manager would pull up some lay away accounts that only had a little bit left to pay and we would pay them off except for the last dime. Couldn't pay it 100% because then the computer would assume that the people had taken their toys home with them. We paid with cash so it was totally anonymous. The store manager would then call the people and tell them that their order was paid and they could come and pick it up. One of the best feelings in the world. Don't know where I can do this again this year. Target doesn't do Lay away. I don't shop at Walmart. Sigh.

the stores looked like warehouses with bad lighting. more like storage areas instead of salesfloor.

and they are stores that sell products where appearance counts a lot and they could easily improve it by investing in upgrades, designers, food employees etc.

I don't really ever need to go to Toys R Us, but I do know that the last few times I've entered one is to get a gift for Toys For Tots!

This makes me sad, realizing the impact it has on TFT

One of my best childhood memories was a "shopping spree" (christmas present) at Toys R Us

They have lots and lots of toys thanks to their ill gotten gains.
