Being poor in America is a personal choice, unless there are mitigating circumstances.
A homeless man can go to school, get a job driving a truck making $70k per year and in 20 years become a millionaire.
In America you can work hard and change your future - if you chose.

Its simple. Unfortunately the government wants to keep people poor. That way they can control them.

What a colossal asshole. The responses are encouraging, though.

(63,221 posts)Does he have any idea how stupid that is? Or how many impediments there are to pulling oneself out of homelessness? Or to getting a job when you are homeless? Right, like you are just going to walk off the street and into a job making 70k per year - IF YOU REALLY, REALLY WANT TO!
God, I just can't believe the cluelessness of some people! Arghhh!

(31,261 posts)In fact, homeless people don't get jobs unless they can somehow establish residency, and that is difficult. Maybe instead of spinning fantasy, that guy could educate himself then work with democrats to make effective policy.

Anyone who would say being poor is a choice is a totally delusional, cruel, tone deaf, grade A asshole.
