KRUGMAN: The GOP's Shameful 3-D Strategy - Deception, Distraction & Disenfranchisement

@paulkrugman

Some thoughts on the midterms and the political future: The GOP has a fundamental political problem: its policies are unpopular. It wants to cut taxes on the rich and slash social benefits; voters want the opposite. So how can it win? 1/

The answer has long been what I think of as a 3-D strategy: deception, distraction, and disenfranchisement. We saw all three this year. 2/

Deception: We're going to protect preexisting conditions! Really! Just trust us and pay no attention to what we've actually done! And to be fair, this approach probably blunted D attacks on health care -- but not enough to prevent big losses over the issue 3/

Distraction:
Look over there! Evil caravan! For a while this looked as if it was gaining traction, thanks to a disastrous performance by the mainstream media, which bought fully into an obvious ploy. But in the end it basically fell flat 4/

But disenfranchisement -- throwing people off the voter rolls and making it hard to vote -- almost certainly got Rs governors' races in GA and FL, plus the FL Senate seat and some state legislatures. 5/

It's really shameful that this is how US politics works now. And given the results, Rs will do it even more aggressively next time. The logic of the situation is turning the GOP into the enemy of democracy, and we should all be very worried fin/

1. What needs to happen is MASSIVE TURNOUT that they can't stop, and then reverse that shit.

Sadly, we are in a place in some states, like GA and FL, where we have to get EVERYONE WITHOUT EXCEPTION to vote and so massively that there is no way for them to steal it and then take over and reverse that shit.

When it is close enough to steal, they will do it. TOO MANY PEOPLE STILL DID NOT VOTE. Yes, it was much better than in previous election but plenty still didn't vote. They need to VOTE. Period. No excuses. So we can get the people in place to reverse stealing these elections with voter suppression SHIT.

2. It basically comes down to lying.

The the GOP lies that voter fraud is a problem, they lie that their policies help America, they lie about immigration, they lie about everything. They have to. The truth is they are fascists, and they obviously can't admit that.
