(50,949 posts)Every time I see it, I am right back there on a Bronx roof watching it happen.
And the jumpers. Horrifying.

(50,949 posts)really fascinating to me about Scientology. It's like the FLDS. I can't get enough of them. I don't doubt that, with the right stimulus, all of us could be susceptible to a cult. I just can't figure out how it happens.

(205,310 posts)I know young people joined the moonies back in the day, but I remember some showed up at my school and no one even spoke to them. They seemed silly to most of us at the time.

(205,310 posts)I remember an Army recruiter lady set up in the lobby of the main building and everyone just ignored her. I had a class there and when class got out we all went over to chat with her because we felt sorry for her.

(205,310 posts)But with the moonies, young people were known for leaving home to join them. A guy who worked for my Dad had a son who went off and joined and the Dad was heartbroken. At the time I didn't get it and I still don't. One of them came to my dorm room, knocked on the door because he was selling books. I was quite startled, had no idea what to make of him, took me a minute to figure out it was a young guy since he was wearing a long orange robe, but also a parka since it was winter.

(205,310 posts)Seemed bizarre to me at the time, let alone now! Who would choose to do that??

I think what hooked him was if these celebs want this, surely I must.
He no longer is part of it but if I bring it up he defends them. Another friend assures me they are not only a cult but have much violence in their history.

(Unless it's that Brangelina movie. Which I also never need to see again, ever.)

(205,310 posts)That I remember seeing on AMC back in the day. It was pretty funny, but whenever I see the title in the listings now, it's that stupid remake.
