HQ2 in the D.C. area could help Amazon snag a $10 billion Pentagon contract
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/hq2-in-the-dc-area-could-help-amazon-snag-a-10-billion-pentagon-contract-2018-11-12
As Amazon.com Inc. looks close to announcing where it will place its second headquarters, analysts are pointing out that a big footprint in the Washington, D.C., area could help the company secure a massive Pentagon contract.
The potential new site in the northern Virginia suburb of Crystal City, Va., could only help the chances of Bezos & Co. landing JEDI, said Wedbush Securities analysts in a note dated Friday. Thats a reference to the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure contract, which could be worth as much as $10 billion over a decade and is expected to be awarded in April.
Amazon reportedly plans to locate its HQ2 in both Crystal City and Long Island City, N.Y., with about 25,000 employees in each place, as the e-commerce and tech giant wraps up a long selection process. The Virginia location would sit in the shadows of the Pentagon, put thousands more Amazon employees inside the Beltway and represent a well-timed move, said Wedbush analysts Daniel Ives, Michael Pachter and Strecker Backe.
With the JEDI contract, the Department of Defense will choose a cloud-computing provider for massive amounts of data. Amazon AMZN, -0.60% is the favorite to be the sole victor in this game-changing cloud deal, but Microsoft Corp. MSFT, -2.40% could win the day given it has been a key DOD partner for 40 years, the Wedbush team said.

If they weren't so corrupt and inefficient in that country, it might have risen to the level of the fictitious one in the Terminator series.

Theyve had a decade of experience working through the issues, although the recent exposure of the Chinese hardware bug inserted in server motherboards points to a potential vulnerability in moving to the cloud.

If Amazon can land such a contract...
