WASHINGTON Paul Manafort, President Trumps former campaign chairman, repeatedly lied to federal investigators in breach of a plea agreement he signed two months ago, the special counsels office said in a court filing late on Monday.
Prosecutors working for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, said Mr. Manaforts crimes and lies about a variety of subject matters relieve them of all promises they made to him in the plea agreement. But under the terms of the agreement, Mr. Manafort cannot withdraw his guilty plea.

Paul Manafort arrives to jail
(CNN)Just before dusk on Friday, a white van pulled into Northern Neck Regional Jail, a green-roofed, low-slung building about three miles from the bank of the Rappahannock River in Virginia.
Inside the van sat former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
The white van had left the federal courthouse in downtown Washington, DC, with Manafort inside three hours earlier.
In the federal system, there is no mugshot nor perp walk. If he's found guilty and sent to prison for the amount of time prosecutors hope, the 69-year-old man may never be seen outside again.

(5,499 posts)45 has to know that he can't fulfill his promise to Manafort. And now there is nothing Manafort can do. He's been branded a liar. If the pardon doesn't come, he can't run back to prosecutors and say, this time I won't lie.
