I think we will have a good 2019 and a better 2020.
Just a feeling.
I think we will put aside some of our petty bickering and that we will have a more unified, more effective us. I just feel that way.

(4,341 posts)That is their only good trait, they stick together like glue. Someone writes the talking points, they all repeat them verbatim and suddenly it becomes a meme that gets into their followers little brains.
Of course there has to be some disagreement, but it must be where it counts. Example, the 5-white-guys against Nancy Pelosi, they should now unite and stop their repub behaviour. I am not saying democrats should become lemmings just like repubs, but they must be more united, make sure they don't jump the gun like they did against Franken, they need to be clear to what actions hurt the party and their base, then resolve those in private and come up with a resolution that benefits everyone and show the public they are working to better the country.

(6,110 posts)Trump is NOT universally popular even among republicans. McCain, Sasse, Corker, Kasich, Romney and many other prominent republicans never had any love for Trump. Even none from the Bush family voted for him, neither did Romney.
Trump is quite beatable in 2020. As the House exposes more of his crimes, he will lose more republicans.

(25,519 posts)Republicans will blame the coming economic woes on Democrats. It's vital to present a unified force. Any groups or persons not doing so won't be very popular. Nobody's in the mood for that.

(8,652 posts)I don't mind a two party (or more) system. It's healthy for a Democracy. I just don't want Nazi's to be one of the parties.

(10,721 posts)We better be ready for Trump 2.0, a more savvy and more intelligent and more charismatic demagogue.
My point being that we aren't likely to see a reasonable, rational Republican Party. We may eventually see the death and replacement of the GOP, though that's probably decades in the future.

(13,870 posts)I was thinking today that a few of the 40 seats we won were favorable to the Dems and several were toss-ups, but most were cases where we won a Republican seat.
Cant get complacent; we will have strong opposition in most of those districts. We could only afford to lose 18 seats.
That being said, I think we will have an advantage going into the 2020 election on the same issues as we had this time, and it looks like Trump will double down on his campaign of militant stupidity.
