Has anyone heard of "Approval Voting"?

I got a pitch today from the "Center for Election Science", advocating a voting system I've never heard of before. Apparently (unlike ranked-choice) you vote for as many candidates as you want from the entire list, and the candidate with the highest number of aggregate votes wins (all votes are weighted equally). Can't say I've heard of this actually being used anywhere. None of the names on this group's Board or Advisory Committee are familiar to me.
