Somerset Maugham couldn't write a novel with a more hilarious downfall that is the result of such debased vanity.
A hundred years from now there will be plays, rock operas, Italian operas, movies, novels and comic books about how a person of incredible low morals, limited self awareness and vast ignorance of how government works volunteered to become President so every little thing could be examined in exquisite detail.
Ms. Daniels and Avenatti lit the match on this fuse and Trump tried to extinguish it with gallons of kerosene.

It was for bank fraud and campaign finance violations related to allegations made by SD.

(53,061 posts)specifically related to Stormy Daniels. The law suit was filed March 6th and a search warrant was issued on April 9th
Here is the WAPO article detailing the connection

Michael Cohen, the longtime attorney of President Trump, is under federal investigation for possible bank fraud, wire fraud and campaign finance violations, according to three people with knowledge of the case.
FBI agents on Monday raided Cohens Manhattan office, home and hotel room as part of the investigation, seizing records about Cohens clients and personal finances. Among the records taken were those related to a 2016 payment Cohen made to adult-film star Stormy Daniels, who claims to have had a sexual encounter with Trump, according to a fourth person familiar with the investigation.
Here is a detailed timeline from Daniels wiki:
On March 6, 2018, Daniels filed a lawsuit against Trump. She said that the non-disclosure agreement that she had signed in reference to the alleged affair was invalid because Trump had never personally signed it. The suit also alleges that Trump's attorney had been trying to intimidate Daniels and "scare her into not talking". A day later, Cohen initiated an ex parte arbitration process which resulted in an order that barred Daniels from disclosing "confidential information" related to the non-disclosure agreement. The order itself, which Daniels' lawyers called bogus, was supposed to remain confidential.[57]
In a March 25, 2018, interview with 60 Minutes, Daniels said that she and Trump had sex once, and that later she had been threatened in front of her infant daughter and felt pressured to later sign a non-disclosure agreement.[58][59]
On April 9, 2018, FBI agents raided Cohen's office and seized emails, tax documents and business records relating to several matters, including payments to Daniels.[60]
The assertion in the OP that it was a direct result of the law suit stands.

The hard work, the real work, is being done by people we never have heard of and never will hear of.
I wouldn't vote for Avenatti if he ran for the office of dogcatcher.
Someone with hurt feelings is bound to alert on this, so spell my name right:

It isn't a testament to Avenatti but rather a testament to how bizarre the case has become and the hubris of Trump that he was swimming in pee pee tapes and payments to porn stars and all of the other crimes and thought that he could just swim by.

And as for your description of ***** as
a person of incredible low morals, limited self awareness and vast ignorance of how government works {who} volunteered to become President....
I totally agree.
Keep your eyes on the prize.
Best wishes.

(36,298 posts)Personally, I don't think Trump intended to win. Losing the election would have been a cash cow for him, his family and his brand. Book deals, reality tv shows, merchandising, speeches and so on.

(53,061 posts)of NY AG who initiated the investigation and the search warrants on charges completely unrelated to the Mueller investigation.
Mueller is investigating Russian interference in the election and the SDNYAG was investigating wire fraud and campaign finance violations as a result of Stormy Daniels lawsuit.
The plea today was related to the Russian investigation but it is the 9th charge against Cohen. The first 8 were done (probably with the knowledge of) by the office of the AG in New York under a Republican appointed District Attorney.

(1,020 posts)It could have been anyone or anything. When you're as corrupt as Cheetolini is, you've got *lots* of loose ends that you can follow, or otherwise bump into. It's not like Nixon, which started with Bumblegate ... er, I mean, Watergate.
