Eddie MUNSTER's favorite band rages against him, his "like...MANSON's love for The Beatles"

Tom Morello: Paul Ryan 'Is The Embodiment Of The Machine Our Music Rages Against'

Paul Ryan has previously cited Rage Against the Machine as his favorite band, but the group's guitarist isn't returning the niceties. In a blistering op-ed published Thursday night on Rolling Stone's website, Tom Morello blasts Mitt Romney's new VP choice as "the embodiment of the machine our music rages against."

In painting Ryan as antithetical to progress, Morello compares the Congressman's appreciation of RATM to Charles Manson's love for The Beatles and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's liking for Bruce Springsteen.

At the heart of Morello's distate for Ryan is "his guiding vision of shifting revenue more radically to the one percent." He goes on to say Ryan has plenty of "rage," but claims its "A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment."

It's been a rough week for the Romney-Ryan ticket. The Silversun Pickups sent Romney a similarly scathing cease-and-desist when it was revealed that the campaign had played their song "Panic Switch" at an event. A spokeswoman for Romney said that though the song was played without permission, the use was legal because it was covered under a blanket licensing agreement. The campaign said the song was not a part of their regularly used playlist and would not be used again.

"We don't like people going behind our backs, using our music without asking, and we don't like the Romney campaign," the band's frontman Brian Aubert wrote. "We're nice, approachable people. We won't bite. Unless you're Mitt Romney!" ....

We all have favorite bands/artists/actors/celebs/etc...
But how weird is it to find out that your Favorite "Whatever" actually hates you. I bet this is mostly a republican phenomenon that most of will never experience.

Imagine having to settle on Ted's "Snakeskin Cowboy" as an intro.

People would get mental images of the wild eyed "Wango Tango" and associate them with Mitt.

I saw he had said they were one of his favorite bands and thought at the time that he was pretty stupid to leave himself open to that. Surely he had read the lyrics of some of their songs? Apparently not! That and Tom Morello's open support of the protesters in Wisconsin (his mom is/was a teacher) should have clued him in.

I love RATM...saw them in 96 or 97, can't remember which year, but they opened for U2 (the POP tour, IIRC) at Death Valley Stadium in SC. Me and mr liberty had great seats for that show, about 10 rows from the front, and right by the stage part that jutted out like a runway. Bono got within about 5 feet of us.

K&R for the articulate and awesome Mr. Morello!

Rage is my favorite band, but I can not imagine Paul Ryan listening to them. Rage is the most intense protest band in history, every single song they did was fiercely political and none of the positions they took would be endorsed by Paul Ryan. Granted they were very critical of Clinton in the 90's, but all their criticism came from the left. It is no surprise at all that Rage denounced him the moment they found out he was a fan.

Creative people tend to be open-minded and liberal in outlook. Which is why they are almost always Democrats.

They would not be at all offended by using the word radical to describe them either, they are probably the most intense protest band in history. It is absolutely crazy that Paul Ryan would even listen to them much less consider them his favorite band.

I do consider them my favorite band, but I am a very different person than Paul Ryan.

loudly prohibited 'pukes from using their music: Heart, Tom Petty, Springsteen. The list goes on and on.

I've only heard RATM a few times. A gal I know in the audio biz used to play them at ear splitting volume to celebrate the end of the Consumer Electronics Show every year a the accompanying beer bust. Good times were had by all.

It's a rather famous guitar - visually iconic in an '80s Eddie Van Halen vein. Tom wrote the words nice and big so they could be read easily, yet Ryan missed them, and their sentiment, completely.

Lil' Paulie defines obtuse; he's denser than New England granite.
