Tweet from CNN's Kate Bennett about George and Barbara Bush, retweeted by April Ryan:

Barbara Bush used to sit on the steps of the South Portico at the White House, waiting for George Bush to return from trips. I thought of this picture tonight, and how happy she must be that he's coming home to her again.

I hope the grief and pain of losing a father, grandfather is balanced by the love the Bush family experienced sharing their lives with GHWB.

That's a big kudo in my book. I may not have agreed on a lot politically, but on that I'm on their side.

When I found out he was going to visit our local flea market, I went there and easily got close up where I could talk to him and shake his hand. I was surprised at how low key this event was, with crowds close around him and minimal security- vast difference from GW Bush and Laura's more partisan campaign events where attendees had to get tickets from local Repub party and could not greet them up close the way we could with GHWBush in '92. But the elder Bush had high popularity so I guess he felt much more comfortable mingling with everybody than W who was despised or derided by half the country. Our local news ran this story back in April about Barbara and George having lunch with a local family in Sept. 1992:

But I'll never forget how he disrespectfully called Clinton and Gore "bozos" with obvious sense of entitlement expecting to stay in WH and I thought Barbara spoke rudely about Hillary and Bill too, so I was quite pleased he was humbled in that election. We now know that even though he acted graciously later, his defeat fueled the extreme nasty Repub backlash against Clintons and Dems that is still poisoning our politics.
