Trump blamed by California Republicans for nuclear political holocaust that obliterated midterm GOP candidatesBOB BRIGHAM 01 DEC 2018 AT 09:18 ET
Democrats flipped at least six congressional districts in the most populous state and possibly a seventh. Every single statewide Republican lost as Gavin Newsom was elected governor.
This is the death of the Republican Party in California, Republican consultant Mike Madrid told Politico.
Theres no coming back from this for at least a generation, if not more, he added.
RNC committeeman Shawn Steel called the California election results a nuclear political holocaust for Republicans.

With 71.0 percent of registered voters casting ballots, this was OCs highest-turnout midterm election since 1970, according to data from county election officials. A higher share of people voted than in the 2012 presidential general election, when turnout was just over 67 percent.
The high voter turnout this year is believed to have helped Democrats, whose turnout tends to trail Republicans, particularly in non-presidential elections that have overall low turnout.
And the Democrats scored big flipping all four of OCs Republican-held Congressional seats, picking up two Republican state legislative seats, and a county supervisor seat.
The final results in Orange County were posted at 9 p.m. Friday.

(58,648 posts)Repubs have been on the outs for a while now. Trump just hastened the process.
Californians started to really wake up after Prop 8 and 22. White progressives came to realize that they could no longer sit on the sidelines as Christian Talibangelists took over the state. As usual, when more people come out to vote, progressive candidates are elected and progressive proposals are enacted.

As someone said above, as goes California, so goes the nation. Here's hoping
ETA, I like to point out that the demographics of Texas are not all that different from CA. The difference is turnout, motivation and voter suppression.
