(930 posts)Yea, we can say - My mom is elderly and on medicare and I am responsible to get her bills paid, so I was wanting to know how much medicare has been cut and what the added expense for her will be so I can formulate a budget.
Yea record the response for all to hear.

(57,936 posts)As a senior, this is a big issue, and since I am out there talking to voters, I need to be able to explain this.
Unfortunately, I still have questions.
First, what is tumbler? I would like to be able to download and e-mail videos like this, but I don't know how to do it without sending a link to a website.
Second, am I correct in assuming that the money saved on Medicare consists of the saved by more aggressively pursuing fraud and, what is hard to understand, the money saved by requiring insurance companies to spend 80% of the premiums on medical care? Is that where the savings on payments to insurance companies comes from?
The video is clear except on those two points.
Stephanie Cutter does a great job. She could speak a little more slowly for us seniors though.

(122 posts)I too am wondering what a tumbler is.
Here's what I have come up with to use and explain it when I can't use a video like that. I try and emphasize that it's savings and not cuts as seniors hear cuts to medicare and they get scared.
Romney has Ryan, the creator himself of medicare "voucher care" out running around telling this story about Obama taking 716 billion out of the medicare fund. That really isn't true. Theyre intentionally implying a cut in Medicare benefits and thats just false. The new health care act actually will achieve "savings" of 716 billion by attacking fraud and by reductions in payments to health care providers (which they mostly signed on to in exchange for all the new customers they would get under the plan). But it's not cuts to medicare beneficiaries themselves. There is no reduction in medicare benefits under Obama care, in fact some of the savings were reinvested in greater benefits for seniors, including no cost preventative care and closing the Medicare Part D prescription drug donut hole and adding at least an additional eight years to the life of medicare. Paul Ryan even liked so much he even included it in his plan but now he's running around distorting it.

(1,628 posts)Tumblr, stylized as tumblr., is a microblogging platform and social networking website, owned and operated by Tumblr, Inc. The service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog, named a "tumblelog". Users can follow other users' blogs, as well as make their blogs private.[4][5] Much of the website's features are accessed from the "dashboard" interface, where the option to post content and posts of followed blogs appear.

(180 posts)A good response, but unnecessary ageist put down of grandparents at the conclusion, suggesting that they are awkward at posting videos on Tumblr. It may be the case that they are, though I suspect many grandparents are, by this time in the baby boom cycle, extremely competent at working computers and are internet savvy. In any case, and unnecessary dismissal in the assumptions of their incompetence may be correct in a general sense, but may be perceived to be simply ageist in another.

You'd think a CEO would be familiar with writing on boards to illustrate whatever devious crap they're hatching. He looks like he never wrote on one before.

(8,053 posts)you can see Ms. Cutter eviscerate the boy-wonder fill in host for the program. He actually tried to act indignant and make the case for Obama being wrong for granting interviews with local media during his campaign swing through Iowa last week, but not granting any press conferences to the DC media cesspool. I don't think that boy realized just how stupid he sounded--and Ms. Cutter, true to her name, flayed him a thousand ways in :45.
