Not so much anymore (rural or white) and the GOBs don't much like it. Avoid the police there...your life depends on it.

A sudden retirement means mostly two things with republicans. They have committed a crime, or they have looked ahead to the next election and see that they are certain to lose.

Fort Bend is 25% Asian now and is very diverse. The Democrats won all county wide races where they had a candidate up

Heads up! It would make sense because Nehls talked about running for Olson's seat 18 months ago and then suddenly withdrew. It's obvious that Olson has had some sort of health issue. My bet is that this little plan was laid out a year ago. By the way, Nehls is a punk who referred to Barack Obama as "that clown in Washington." He is a graduate of Jerry Falwell's university and is as rightwing as they come. Troy wants his brother Trevor to be named to replace him as sheriff if he moves up to congress. There's all kinds of palace intrigue because Commissioner's Court would appoint the new sheriff if Nehls wants to run in a special election for Olson's seat. (I don't think Republicans thought about having a Democratic commissioners court when this little plan was laid out.)
