Im talking about the tv news, radio, online, and sidewalk chalk love fest. You cant turn the car radio on for 15 minutes without hearing it.

(27,814 posts)... for the Republicans to come up with "reasonable explanations" as to why their "pResident" looks so guilty in the context of last week's revelations.
I'm not saying it was planned that way - no one knew that the death of G.H.W. Bush would take the heat off Trump or the GOP. But they're no doubt thankful for a few days of media non-attention, while the news is 24/7 coverage of state funeral preparations, etc.
This gives the Republican spokes-whores enough time to get their talking points straight before the focus is back on what their "pResident" knew - and when he knew it.

(16,387 posts)Are you saying one doesnt have to sit around all day staring at cable news? That its possible to have other interests, where one doesnt have to get frustrated about the content of cable news and come here to report said frustration?
Who woulda thunk it!

(38,958 posts)I long ago turned off the Breathless 24/7 Breaking News Infotainment Channels and Im glad that I did. I would encourage more to turn off the tv 📺 and take a walk or talk with a neighbor.

(12,586 posts)where the news cycle hasn't been focused on him. First it's McCain, now GHWB. Both men despised Trump and now he's got to say something nice about Bush, so that's got to smart even more. Unless he does something spectacular -- and I wouldn't put him past that -- the only ones who will be giving him the time of day is "Fox & Friends."
I understand he's already sent out an "I'll be there" tweet before he's even been invited to the funeral. I would imagine there's going to be a lot of finagling to allow him to read a few words written by a staffer.
If he does show, I'm going to change channels on any network that cuts away from the speaker to show him in the pews.
I still think he'll show up late and make a big deal about it.

(1,584 posts)Trump. It is glaring and they (the red-hatters) may close their eyes and ears but they will not be able to un-see or un-hear it. It is driving the ones I know bat-shit crazy.

(9,426 posts)tribute, tRump could parachute out of a plane like Bush used to? I suggest Air Farce One, in tandem with Ivanka strapped to his back. Spectacular, and would take all the attention away from the funeral, too. Is GHW being buried by Barbara, or his long time girlfriend, Jennifer Fitzgerald?

(22,574 posts)I was pissed at age 11 when JFK was killed and for his funeral because there was nothing to watch on our 2 or 3 tv channels.
But that's how 11 year olds think and complain.

(27,045 posts)the networks resumed regular programming. I remember it being awkward for comedians to be funny, because no one felt like laughing, but things gradually got back to as normal as possible. They didn't do this 24-hour coverage back then. The nightly news was only 15 minutes until the newspaper strike, when it was expanded to a half hour.

(13,877 posts)But he bore the Office of the Presidency with the honor it deserves. He was a war hero, he was privileged, to be sure, but he served and has endured.
And it does make me chuckle to imagine Orangeman watching all these tributes..."ALL of it, everything he is not, but wished he could be." Hell, even George W. could out president him. At least his gaffes were funny and he didn't seem to mind...again, he did have some class.
Find myself imagining (with glee) the passing of 45. What will the "tributes" look like? Who will they interview? Which wife will be there? Will they have the Trump Baby balloon?

(23,099 posts)For fucks sake, he is no saint, hurt America by ensuring the hostages stayed locked up by Iraq for extra time to help Raygun and hurt Carter who probably would have won if he could have brought them home. He also encouraged Iran to invade Kuwait so he could invade Iran and be a war president. He is good only in comparison to a totally stupid, venal, corrupt, traitor who was put in place by a foreign country to hurt America and help Russia. Yes, he was better than his son, but that too is extremely faint praise, since his son is in the top 5 (maybe top 3) all time worst presidents.

(7,596 posts)As long as it doesn't overshadow other news, I don't mind a former president's passing getting this sort of coverage.
In fact, I'm looking forward to Trump's passing and the reaction it gets. Will these talking heads grasp at straws like they never have before trying to come up with ANYTHING positive to say about him or will they just throw their hands in the air, say "fuck it", and tell the brutal, honest truth about the son of a bitch?
