Other than staying home because you have diarrhoea,

have you ever made a decision based on what your gut tells you?
No wonder he has declared bankruptcy so often.

When people say they went with their "gut" what they are really saying is they consciously allowed their emotions to overpower their reason. It often leads to at least functionally intelligent people making stupid decisions. As demagoguery specifically appeals to base emotions and prejudices, Trump benefits when people make decisions with their "gut".
