(11,936 posts)A President died. Of course the media is gonna make a big deal of it until its bled dry. Get over it.
Me.
(35,454 posts)Just as there is no need to follow the hearse as it drives down a road. There will be plenty of opportunities to honor him. And maybe, just maybe there is something else happening in the world today.

(11,936 posts)But you're still doing it.
Me.
(35,454 posts)and apparently, the networks agreed they didn't need to follow the hearse down the road. CBS stopped and NBC didn't cover it at all opting instead for one of the Jenners. And, btw, who made you hall monitor anyway?

The endless whining about the coverage has become tiresome. Im not sure what people expected?

(3,161 posts)Cable news really seems to be an addiction for some. Remember the outrage on Championship Sunday when MSNBC had soccer on for two hours? GASP!

(6,377 posts)Like him or hate him, he was the president of the United States. It's going to get first rate coverage.

I hope GHWB's eulogies don't last as long as Aretha's (12 or 14 hours?)
There are many channels on cable, or many books in the library.

(5,810 posts)He is going to get the usual send off we typically expect for our heads of state when they die. Yes, he was old. Yes, he was flawed. Who isnt? The fact remains he was President and like it or not, there will be overkill on the biography of his life, his time as POTUS and what has happened since he left office. (Lots of sky diving for mile marker birthdays!)
So if you dont like it you are wasting your time and breath complaining about the coverage of his life and the ceremonies marking his passage. Maybe change the channel to The Food Network or sports. There are lots of options to avoid Bush Chronicles.
Better yet, head outside. Take a walk in the park. Ride a bike. Build a snowman.
Head to a local coffee shop. Try a new brew. Enjoy an old favorite. People watch.
This time will pass in a few more days and Bush I will fade into the history books. We can go back to tRump bashing or arguing about the best football teams. Or whether to have turkey or ham for the holidays. Or.... whether to go vegetarian! Eekkk....
It is the holidays. Stop and look around. Enjoy the festivities or opt out. But lets avoid the drama for a few days while Poppy gets his fare well into the Cosmos. There are worse devils in this world to keep us up at night.
...this is about how America treats its leaders.
Even former ones. It's the same for Democrats and republicans alike.
Yes honor the man, but do it intelligently. Following a hearse down a road seems so pointless and speaks to how the media covers things. But I guess the mindless coverage is what everyone expects and is fine with it.

(27,805 posts)The problem is that the accelerated news cycle has given a lot of people a severe case of FOMO, and they get impatient with this type of coverage, panicked that they're missing something else.
I didn't care for President George H.W. Bush, but I don't think it hurts us to slow down and reflect on our past, even if the reflection is somber and somewhat bitter. But slowing down is good for us and I don't have a problem with the news outlets featuring this.

(5,810 posts)But it is how we do things and they dont always make sense. And some people actually seem to like all the hoopla. So I try not to fight it when it is gonna happen anyhow. Just develop your own strategy and avoid it. Not being critical of your point of view at all. Just sharing my idea of alternatives!
