Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsApparently the Joy/Meghan blow up on 'The View', today, was damn near a breaking point
It was definitely the worst I've seen. Joy was talking about the good work GHWB did in signing the "Clean Air Act" and now trump* is working to undo all of the progress made and that climate change could change her into a 'one issue' voter. That triggered Meghan to interject:
McCain: 'Can we focus on the president, please. I don't want to talk about Trump, we're honoring a great president,'
Behar: 'Excuse me a second, please. I want to talk about - ' .......
McCain: 'We're honoring a great president who passed and I'm not interested in your one-issue voting.'
Behar: 'I don't care what you're interested in. I'm talking!'
McCain: 'Well I don't care what you're interested in either, Joy!'
Whoopi quickly called for a commercial break.
During the break, Joy pretty much letting the producers know if they don't reign in McCain, she's leaving. Personally, I wish they'd cut McCain, but apparently more people are tuning in - perhaps in hopes of seeing just the kind of thing that happened, today. I can't think of a single thing, other than unnecessary harping, Meghan contributes to the show.
Anyway, 'The Daily Mail' has quite the article on the dust up.

(59,503 posts)where he was good. The clean air act that was designed to reduce acid rain worked. It should be noted that the Clean Air Act was the US implementation of the international agreement called the Montreal Protocal. At this link, you can see how the world working together reduced the problem through an international effort. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Protocol In 2016, an amendment to the Montreal Protocal - the Kigali Amendment was enacted and has the potentical to help on the climate change.
There is a stark difference between GHWB, who actually was part of the solution on that ... and Trump speaking of removing incentives for renewable energy and - to make it worse - subsidizing coal. Meagan McCain obviously knew little of the fact that in those Bush years and really until 2008, her dad was closer to Bush on this iissue than to Trump.
As to climate change itself, at the 1992 Rio summit, Bush had both an administration delegation and a delegation of NGO representatives who had credibility on climate change. One of the members of the delegation was Teresa Heinz, who had led an effort to create green building in Pittsburgh. There was also a bipartisan Senate/Congressional delegations -- one member of that was John Kerry.
He was a one-term president and the people voted him OUT the DOOR! BUH BYE!

(1,622 posts)...because the drama and bickering is good for ratings.
Siwsan
(26,260 posts)I know she's gotten into it with Whoopi, in the past, but she has backed off that routine. She and Abby are think-alikes and she's friends with Sunny. So, no Joy, no drama.
ADX
(1,622 posts)...If Joy left, Meghan would dial it back a notch because she'd have no foil to play against. That being said though, I don't see Joy leaving anytime soon. Joy's a native New Yorker who doesn't mind mixing it up, in fact, I'm sure she relishes it. She left the show before and managed to find her way back for around $2 million per year so I doubt she'd up and leave now just because Meghan gets on her nerves. If anything, ABC will bump her $ up a notch or two come contract re-negotiation time if they need to.
Siwsan
(26,260 posts)I get the feeling this acrimony is an escalating problem. Meghan doesn't confront Sunny or Whoopi with nearly the same caustic venom as she does Joy and didn't with Sarah, either, when she was on the panel.
Meghan even barked at Joy when she was giving half hearted praise to her, on Joy's 20th anniversary show because Joy wasn't looking at her during her rambling presentation.
According to the article, everyone was asked to treat Meghan with kid gloves because she's 'fragile', since her father's death. Meghan needs to suck it up and move on with her life.
ADX
(1,622 posts)...but that's another reason Meghan's not going anywhere. Like it or not, agree with it or not but she's bullet-proof for the time being because of her father's death.

(29,098 posts)Clearly, she is having difficulty in controlling her impulses and emotions. The show needs to intervene and insist she get treatment. It's uncomfortable to see someone break down this way and they run risk that she will do serious damage to their product. Regardless of her Political views, her behavior is just out of bounds and irrational. She needs help.

(26,260 posts)My favorite parts of the show are listening to Whoopi and Joy. And Sunny can give some interesting insight on the legal stories.
The guest content can be sketchy. Tomorrow they are having Steve Scalise on to talk about gun control.
But Meghan and Abby add nothing to the show. Meghan can actually be very disrespectful to guests. I think it was Chuck Schumer that she flat out called a liar.

(20,841 posts)The current GOP is hell bent on destroying his legacy. It's no wonder McCain wants to shut down that topic. Current GOPers don't want to listen to how much their party has abandoned sensible GOP platforms of clean water, clean air, infrastructure... She has to blow up and end that conversation for fear of what the actual truth is. The truth is, today's GOPer in Washington would seem like a moonbat nut from 1988 standards.
Siwsan

(6,916 posts)McCain is married to Ben Domenech, rightwing propagandist and liar. Domenech is one of the many mediocre minds who inhabit conservative media. Hes on wingnut welfare, boosted by billionaires to push the rightwing billionaire line.
(Domenech works at the Federalist, which has secret rightwing donors.)
If McCain can tolerate such lies at home, there is NO WAY she is qualified to be a journalist on a real news station. She should go.
Siwsan

(25,476 posts)Thanks, makes sense. Outside of the Fox safe space, poor Meghan is constantly triggered. I have a feeling she comes to the meeting where they decide the daily topics loaded with garbage from Fox and right wing sources, is cranky even before the show begins because she's being repressed by the mean liberals.
Her contribution to the discussion of Trump's Russian business connections the other day: "Obama went to Russia!"

She is going to go nuts when Red Don goes down in any way.
Her contribution to the discussion of Trump's Russian business connections the other day: "Obama went to Russia!"
The Russia Tower thing has skimmed off around 10 - 15% of Red Don's support and that's a hard number IMHO.
The mixed aisle forums they're reacting the same way or they're cut and run ... crickets on trump tower ... that story has hit hard because of the timing.
betsuni
(25,476 posts)She claims to not like Trump because of her father and at the same time sees herself as the voice explaining the Trump voter. I would like more details on what exactly these Republican Values are.
Also, the other day the topic was climate change and everyone else said it wasn't a Left or Right issue, but Meghan was too busy bellowing about BOTH SIDES because Leo DiCaprio uses private jets and has a big carbon footprint.

(11,457 posts)I think everyone has gone too far in giving Meghan slack for howshe has been behaving on the show because of her dad.
Its obvious that everyone liked her dad, thought he was great and that she would bring in more ratings, I think they even hired her friend Abbey because she felt picked on as the only republican.
I liked Sara and was sad when she left, she had a way of making sense about issues without getting personal and was always upbeat. Abbey tries but it feels fake and she repeats the same phrases.
I dont blame Joy for getting mad today, it was uncalled for why she attacked her. She was saying something nice about Bush and that she cared about pollution, we all should really for our health.
Ever since Meghan has been with her far right husband she is getting worse and now that she doesnt have her dad to pull her back or stop her from being a bitch she is going to get worse.
I think she is going through the anger stage of grief and using the show to get it out. She belings in therapy.
Charlotte Little
(658 posts)And she needs some humble pie. Look, Joy has her own issues, but like you said, Meghan was out of line.
