Seems contrary to his engagements with Russia.

(3,344 posts)And remember it was before Mueller was appointed.
Also, it was probably brought up by Ecuador.

(10,252 posts)on getting China to invest in Ecuador's infrastructure. How he would skim a few million from such a scam -- probably he hadn't got that far in figuring out. But Ecuador didn't want to hire Manafort to manage such a deal, unless he could get Assange out of their embassy.
This is just a side plot in the Trump soap opera to show that Manafort was an international scam artist.

(7,538 posts)Manafort's proposal involved Chinese funding for Equador as well as some scheme to acquire PR's bond debt to take over their power utility.

Assange was a loose end.
Comey was looking into it before Mueller so the heat was already on.
I saw Manafort had 10 passport applications in ten years but only produced 3 passports.
Why did Manafort have to use a bogus email address and fake id on his phone when he visited Equador?
The Guardian story is making more sense now even though it lacks evidence because Trump would probably want some cooperation with Assange if they were going to work a deal to pardon him and get him out of there in exchange for silence on the DNC hacking.
That is the gist of what I suspect ...
