The NC GOP is trying to rush through a law that would REQUIRE every county elections board in NC to be chaired by a Republican in election years. These guys just can't stop trying to rig elections.

Even after a court called such a scheme unconstitutional, the GOP-controlled North Carolina legislature will try again to design county election boards to guarantee that Republicans have the chair in election years.

The new legislation would, in odd-numbered years, make the chair a board member who is from “the political party with the highest number of registered affiliates,” which are the Democrats in North Carolina. In even years, when statewide elections are held, the chair would be a board member who is from “political party with the second highest number of registered affiliates,” i.e. the GOP, under the legislation.

Any time you point out to a republican that we are supposed to be a democracy the resounding answer I have always received is that "we are a republic".

Republicans do not want a democracy. They just want authoritarian control of the government, so they can live well themselves and nobody can challenge them, as they loot the rest of us. Their policies make that perfectly clear. Actions such as this one by the NC republicans, make that perfectly clear. What could be less democratic than this bill?

That is what we are fighting against, to preserve our democracy, and to restore it, where it has been weakened by Republicans.

They are not exclusive terms. We have people who represent us when they pass laws. (That makes us a republic.) They do it in our name. But we authorize them to act in our name ONLY BECAUSE WE SELECT THEM DEMOCRATICALLY. (That makes us a democracy.) Any action that interferes with our ability to select them in a democratic way makes them illegitimate. That action just shows them to be the bastards that they are.
