Trump traveled 250 yards to greet George W. He used a stretch limo and an eight-vehicle motorcade

By David Nakamura December 5 at 12:28 AM

President Trump traversed a wide political chasm Tuesday evening when he personally welcomed George W. Bush, his occasional foil, to Blair House, the presidential guest quarters across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House. But the actual distance was just 250 yards — a route Trump and his wife Melania traveled in the presidential parade limousine, with a motorcade of at least seven other vehicles.

The Trumps spent 23 minutes visiting with Bush and his wife, Laura, by all accounts a cordial meeting in which the former president exchanged kisses on the cheek with the current first lady at the curb.

It was the latest in a series of magnanimous gestures that President Trump has made this week to honor the legacy of former president George H.W. Bush, whose state funeral will take place at Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday.

The need for the motorcade, however, prompted questions, and a healthy dose of speculation, about why the Trumps were unable — or unwilling — to simply walk across the street.

So now a simple courtesy by a sitting President who, up until now has been a complete jackass, does one sort of normal gesture and it's labeled "magnanimous" by the press???

Give me a fucking break.

and being completely spherical, they cause him to wobble even when standing perfectly still. A trip across the street would take ten times longer than walking a straight line.

Plus, he has to show that he is in power. I remember someone telling my husband if you have to tell people your title it doesn't mean much. He constantly has to remind people he is in power because we all still can't believe it. The trappings are what make him feel powerful. Of course his wife couldn't walk that far in the 8 inch heels either.

Any reporter for the Washington Post knows that and is being obtuse just for a story. Obama and other presidents did the same things on trips that are walking distance.

It is on Pennsylvania Avenue, at the corner of Jackson Place. That last block of Pennsylvania Avenue between Jackson and 17th Street is the end of the pedestrian-only stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. Easy enough for the Secret Service to establish a secure path from the White House to Blair House. It seems to me Presidents going there to greet visitors would walk the short distance from one to the other.
