I put such items at the curb. They're usually gone within an hour or two, way before the garbage truck can take them.

It’s only two blocks away so it’s almost as convenient as home delivery and my packages won’t mysteriously grow legs and wander off before I get home from work.

I get an alert within a minute and pictures/video for the police. No monitoring fee. Put a box of cat poop out there and wait.

I order alot from Amazon, so I installed one of these that lights up if it detects motion after sundown (about 4:30 pm here in the PNW at this time of year).

I also installed one of these in the inside of the window nearest my front door:

Of course, there is no camera in the security light, but thieves don't know that! Total cost, about $40 including batteries. It's worth every nickel!
