Question for Mitt: Can you pass a security clearance?

You want to be Commander In Chief and be privy to all the secrets of U.S. intelligence, weaponry, diplomatic relations and more.

The people want to know if you can pass a standard security clearance check.

"Sorry Mr Romney, but we will need to understand your financial ties to foreign entities before we can talk with you".

That would have been awesome.

Presidents are granted their clearances due to their positions, and don't have to undergo the background checks that are required for TS clearances.

I'm betting that many, if not most, of our Presidents within the last 50 years couldn't have gotten clearances if they had been required to have background checks.

A trial might have produced different results if his records obtained under FOIA are false.

are you talking about the TANG records that were obtained through FOIA by an Iowa farmer named Marty? You think those TANG records were falsified? They were damning. Why would Bush's people put damning records in the TANG files?

....and, ostensibly, Obama is not blackmailable.

Romney is both those things.

The clearance is based, in part, to recent and current relationships.

I opine he would have passed in 2008.

The highest level of clearance is based, in part, to current and recent relationships.

I do wonder if Romney would be eligible based on that criteria.

Of course not that it's relevant. I just find myself wondering. Having had to undergo one for employment myself.

Even knowing I'm not a bad person, the wait (a month) was stressful.

Sometimes it's faster, sometimes slower. My understanding was it varies based on their workload, your relatives and recent associations.
