I was listening to my favorite radio station when they made the somber announcement and then began playing his songs.

(182,793 posts)When they were doing a game in DC. John still didn't really understand the game but their was someone else at the game who had the time to watch with him and explain. President Nixon. The story goes that they watched much of the game together just off to the side of Cossell, Meredith, and Gifford.

(5,275 posts)I remember that evening vividly for a lot of reasons, heard it on a car radio driving through downtown Columbus.

(7,952 posts)came on (first time I had heard it) and the phone rang and my roommate yelled down the hall "John Lennon's been shot and dead on arrival!". I stayed up all night that night and there were a lot of red eyes at work the next day. Hurt then and hurts now,

And, yes, his music is totally relevant today.

(41,960 posts)I was in the car when I heard it on the radio and I remember as I cried and did what I had to do meeting the eyes of so many shocked, aching people. We all knew we were experiencing deep pain and a sense the world was reeling.
