Among the many dispiriting aspects of this criminal enterprise, there are likely many millions who believe lying, defrauding the electorate, colluding w/ the Russians & violating campaign finance laws (among other crimes) is worth it if it kept Hillary Clinton from being elected.

This is part of a thread by @djrothkopf that is a must read. The scope of Trumps criminality and the disgrace he has brought upon our nation literally makes me sick to my stomach.

But someday this is already certain, no senior American public official--not Richard Nixon, not Andrew Johnson--will go down in more disgrace or be more reviled by history than Donald Trump. And that is as it should be.

(13,571 posts)It's also about racism, about ignorance, about propaganda and why we have allowed its dominance in the media, and about many other aspects. Not everyone voted for Trump because he/she hates women in general and HRC in particular.

Misogyny.
Women of the world know this.
Men of quality cannot let these men hide behind emails, race, competence -- women military leaders not qualified to be commander-in-chief -- or anything else.
You're exactly right.

Today feels different. Sadder, more infuriating, more sickening and closer to the end when the country and its leaders can no longer avoid the scale of criminality committed by Trump & his co-conspirators to defraud the electorate, enrich themselves & cheat their way into the WH.

(58,785 posts)Anger takes many forms, including rising hostility toward "the establishment" and those outside "the tribe."
We're still the nation who elected Obama twice and tried to follow 2 Democratic terms by choosing our first woman Democratic president to succeed him once.
If we can get 2 strong Democratic terms to get the nation mostly back on course and show a way forward that people can understand and believe, we may have gotten through the worst of this dangerous period when anger makes those prone want to tear down very the institutions that still protect us from the abyss.

(51,289 posts)during those two terms, the GOP, led by McConnell, obstructed the placement of Merrick Garland and the House, led by the GOP, carried out 43 votes to overturn the ACA and held numerous hearings about Benghazi ... demonizing Democratic office holders and ... then ... our corporate media acted in concert with the false birther movement and other foolish stories that distorted reality in a way that allowed a huge schism within the populace to fester ...
We need a Fairness Doctrine again that is enforceable to make our media committed to an honest accounting.

(1,474 posts)The gop has run a decades-long hate campaign against Hillary. The right-wing media peddles and profits from this hatred. The gop does not have a plan to help the American People, they use misogyny, prejudice, and bigotry to scare gullible Americans of "others". We have a felon in the White House instead of a supremely qualified woman because the gop has learned and adopted the methods of Goebbels and the Nazi's campaign of hatred.

Time to call out the janitors, and start cleaning up, and use the House of Representatives which we recently won, to start boycotting everything rump wants (and his repug thugs). Don't fund nothing.
Nothing, until rump leaves willingly or not (removed by impeachment or thrown in jail).
Remember, he won this office (supposedly) by doing illegal acts.

(10,138 posts)But after Trump, the organization that needs to be destroyed is the Republican Party in its current guise. I believe that two parties are needed, but the Republican Party today is about cheating, lying, stealing elections, denying basic rights to minorities, controlling women in all ways, enriching themsleves at the countrys expense, and gaining ultimate power to preserve their own privilege and to perpetuate their power. This organization has been evolving since Reagan into this racist, homophobic, misogynistic, anti-immigrant, fake Christian collection of people who want to destroy the government, not work to make it better. I do not know how the partys destruction can be brought about, but its role in enabling Trump and the utter greed and corruption of this administration needs to be front and center for the U.S. public. If Trump is put on trial, the Republican Party needs to be put on trial with him.

(53,410 posts)Dont underestimate the impact our newly elected blue wave is having and will have. And dont underestimate the Americans who put them there. 2019 is going to be a harsh year for the Republicans when the House opens up one investigation after another. By the time the Senate majority become Democrats, in two years, all the groundwork will have been done.
It will happen. We have our foot in the door so they cant shut it in our faces. In this era of corruption our foothold is a pivotal moment in our history.
