Comey says he went public about Hillary with possible fake info (maybe Russian)
What's new about Comey's testimony from yesterday, to my eye:
For the first time, I believe, he seems to confirm that the letter he got was fake -- the letter that caused him to go public on Hillary in summer 2016, which locked him into going public again in Oct about the Weiner emails.

Then-FBI Director James Comey knew that a critical piece of information relating to the investigation into Hillary Clinton's email was fake -- created by Russian intelligence -- but he feared that if it became public it would undermine the probe and the Justice Department itself, according to multiple officials with knowledge of the process.
As a result, Comey acted unilaterally last summer to publicly declare the investigation over -- without consulting then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch -- while at the same time stating that Clinton had been "extremely careless" in her handling of classified information. His press conference caused a firestorm of controversy and drew criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.
Comey's actions based on what he knew was Russian disinformation offer a stark example of the way Russian interference impacted the decisions of the highest-level US officials during the 2016 campaign.

But we now have the first real confirmation from him. Comey said today:

got it into the Justice Department.

here, because I think the underlying material is still
classified. So there was material -- this is what I've said
publicly, and so I'll say it again, there was material that was
classified that if unclassified, released, would open the
Attorney General up to the accusation -- whether it was true or
not -- the accusation that she had not been acting fairly and
impartially in overseeing the investigation.
So far as I knew at the time, and still think, the material
itself was genuine, which is a separate question, though, from
whether it was what it said was accurate.

There is one other major new revelation from Comey in the transcript.
It is that he thinks the NY FBI office was leaking to Giuliani.
He says:

or other media personalities in 2016?
- Mr. Comey. I was concerned that there appeared to be in
the media a number of stories that might have been based on
communications reporters or nonreporters like Rudy Giuliani were
having with people in the New York field office. In particular,
in I want to say mid October, maybe a little bit later, Mr.
Giuliani was making statements that appeared to be based on his
knowledge of workings inside the FBI New York. And then my
recollection is there were other stories that were in the same
ballpark that gave me a general concern that we may have a leak
problem -- unauthorized disclosure problem out of New York, and
so I asked that it be investigated.
