If the Republican Senate is busy not removing Trump from office, they aren't doing other things

They aren't spending that time approving Trump's judicial appointments and trade agreements. They aren't spending that time overturning the ACA.

If Mueller's report shows a felony committed by the President (and the indictments seem to indicate it will) then the House has a responsibility to impeach. Any time the Senate spends on that is time they aren't spending doing active evil.

Just like he did with Merrick Garland. There is no Constitutional requirement that the Senate actually proceed to trial. You know that's what he will do, right?

Among the variables are:

1 his age. Every week posters on DU are point out that aging Den leaders may die or become infirm or demented. Is McConnell exempt because he is Republican?

2. What big money donors might decide they want him to do. They may decide that it is no longer in their interests to keep Trump in office.

3. Trump may become toxic to the Republican Party chances in 2020.

We don't even know whether there are significantly worse revelations to come from the Mueller or state investigations

If Trump loses so much public support that he becomes too toxic, only then McConnell will dump Trump and maybe they will convict.
