(50,269 posts)He shouldn't have been there in the first place. It's certainly not right that a Republican might take his place. If the Veep is also indicted and removed, that leaves us President Pelosi. Certainly she would make a fine POTUS, but it's still not right. The position was stolen from Hillary and she's the one being forgotten in the fix. There's no remedy in the Constitution. Can anything "make it right????"

(53 posts)She picks Hillary for VP, resigns as President, VP Clinton becomes President Clinton. Easy.

(81,238 posts)It's a most delicious thought, isn't it!
To be totally clean of all this, the sad fact is that we have to remove Pence from power, too.
It's not right, and it's not going to be made right. Not only was Hillary Clinton robbed, we were ALL robbed.

(14,015 posts)That's a great start! Edit due to habit of spelling "President" with a lower case "p."

(11,254 posts)...if we take the presidency and have at least one half of Congress (hopefully both!), then we can attempt to pass laws about how to handle fraudulent elections etc. Of course, that law can seriously be abused as well, but assuming that it cannot be abused and it gets passed, such a law could mandate that an election do-over would be needed and lifetime appointments would need to be voided when created through fraud from an illegitimate election.
This fantasy law of mine would never pass as it would likely need to be a constitutional amendment which would handicap (the much more filthy and fraudulent) Republicans, but good to get them on record supporting fraud!

(22,252 posts)If Pence is done away with first, then #45 gets to appoint a new VP. If #45 is then dethroned, that person becomes POTUS and appoints a new VP.
If #45 is done away with first, then Pence becomes POTUS and gets to appoint a new VP
If #46 (Pence) is then done away with his appointed VP becomes POTUS and so on...this could literally go on for the entire second half of the current term of office.
I can not see any scenario in which either of them would choose Speaker Pelosi. My bet would be some lily livered ambitious jerk who would continue to allow McConnell and the Powers Behind The Resolute Desk to run things. Or Mittens (!)
All of this could place the GOP in a very precarious position for 2020.
If they are both dumped in the same move, then she would fall into the order of succession. Since this is highly unlikely, I suspect we will have the same situation that we had in 1974: an appointed VP elevated to POTUS with an appointed VP The good news is that approval of any appointment in this scenario is voted on by the entire Congress, not just the US Senate so there could be some very entertaining events.
Pass the popcorn, and gear up to present a strong united front which takes these crooks on in an aggressive fashion. This is not the time to let them turn it into a defensive game for the Democratic Party. We have the best opportunity to work from a position of power since 2008 so let's not waste it.
