He wants to pretend he has a new Chief of Staff.
Nick Ayers, the present CoS for VP Pence, has been mentioned as the possible replacement for John Kelly. It would be a very unwise career decision if he takes the job.
Trump wishes to re-gain control of who comes and goes in the White House. He is feeling very paranoid and fearful and only wants his closest friends around him, in my opinion. Nick Ayers would not be in charge of the daily routines of the White House, as a normal Chief of Staff. He would be there in name only.

(46 posts)Even a U.S. General can be duped by Trump. John Kelly actually believed he would get some respect from Trump. Kelly thought that Trump would appreciate his knowledge and experience and use it for the benefit of the country and to be a positive force for his presidency. Well screw John Kelly too. He found out soon enough after Charlottesville that it doesn't matter who is there as Chief of Staff, Trump's not having any of it.
Being from the NY area, I've grown up accustomed to hearing about Trump in the news all my life. Doesn't anyone wonder why the people in his own hometown, New York City, virtually detest this man and have for many years. They KNOW him. He duped the rest of the country but in NY he's nothing more than a shady underworld character that's dirty to the bone. Trump cares about Trump and nobody else. Even his kids will come in second if it comes down to either him or one of them going to prison.
The Republican sycophants that hang onto Trump like Devin Nunes, Mitch McConnell, Jim Jordan and others are just men that want to be close to power.
