Had second knee replacement a week ago

Had some issues in the hospital that required an over-night stay (syncope, probably due to POTS or vasovagal straining) but zero (and I mean OTC Advil only) pain. Already bending to 110 degrees and have 0 degrees extension. Still swollen but that'll come with time. Good - just need to chill while on medical leave from work.

Thanks for all your good vibes!

Paula

.

If you get weird skin rashes and lesions, it might be from NSAIDS and it often gets misdiagnosed. All the while you might continue to take them for pain and it could actually be making matters worse. With POTS, you need to stay hydrated and eat salty foods, if you can, to retain water and thirst. Watch for teas, coffees and other diuretics. Two of the girls take fludrocortisone. Hopefully, they'll outgrow it as it mostly affects teenage and twenties women. Early rising from a rested position can make one feel light-headed because the heart isn't up to speed yet. Hot showers can also make one light-headed.

Luckily once the inflammation passed from that flare-up, her sight came back too.

I just mainly felt exhausted. My experience with 2 knee replacements was very good.

FWIW, they did the the epidural block in both cases and I stayed ahead of the pain curve. I had opioids for post-surgery pain, but didn;t really need them.

My body is such that opioids don't work and I get little pain. That said, a few things to know-
1. There will be some discomfort as they are cutting through muscle and bone. Some people have horrific pain, some have none. My right knee was 100% painless with little swelling, my left one has bad swelling.
2. Ice is your friend. Your only friend. Apply liberally. Lather rinse repeat. I mean it.
3. Suck it up but force yourself to full extension and bending 110 degrees or more. You have a window of days. Don't blow it complaining about pain.
4. Let your body be your guide. Pain is good, horrible pain is not. Listen to your inner voice.

It's not without complications but when you need it, you'll be glad.

Good luck

Paula

Had a few setbacks yesterday which resulted in great swelling and some setbacks but hopefully lots of ice and Ibuprofen will help that. The opioids do nothing for me so I don't bother.

I have to go back to work on Monday but it's remote so that's good. I need to fly Jan 12 so I have additional incentive.

Love you all - you are the best medicine...

I hate you.

I had one knee done Sept 5. I've always been able to bend to 120 but extension has hovered at 4-8%. Grrrrrr.

I know one of the problems is I'm not in the best of shape due to a birth defect in my right hip.

But I know with continued physical therapy and my beloved ice (I still have swelling, can't take ibuprofen) I'm be right as rain soon enuf.

(I don't really hate you, I guess as hard as I've worked at it, it must just be envy and I was expecting it to be like hip replacement which was a breeze but I was 25 years younger)
