Republican Fears Grow That Trump Is Leading Them To Doom In 2020

From the article:

NBC News’s Geoff Bennett reported, “I can tell you there’s a growing fear. Certainly growing anxiety among trump allies and Republicans that the white house is in no way prepared for the legal and political danger and drama that awaits and that the fall out could damage the party’s prospects in 2020. Why is that? You’ve got Democrats seizing control of Congress in three weeks time with subpoena power. There’s turmoil in the global financial market from the Trump trade war. You have the Russia investigation picking up speed, and you’ve got those new court filings out Friday implicating President Trump in a felony.”

Trump was seen by GOP leaders as a useful tool. Now, after the Nov 2018 results, he is revealed as more of an anchor.

If they were smart, they would dump him now, and still stand a chance to rehabilitate their image by 2020.

But I think they are convinced the MAGAts would rebel, and they'd all be thrown out.

They had their chance, I think, and they are stuck riding this horse.

You're right that the GOP can't afford to lose those voters, because those voters are the party's essential margin. There aren't enough greedy rich people who vote Republican purely out of self-interest. The Republicans need the low-info folks they've riled up to vote for them because of abortion, God, guns and gays.

The trouble is that the Republicans messed up the low-info pool. Those people now support Trump with the fervent zealotry of a million suns.

I don't know why by now. They all know that Trumpy will be indicted for dozens of felonies.

What would stop them from leaving Trumpy? Complicity in his crimes. That's about it. He's very weak. He's unstable. He knows nothing about governing, but everything about creating drama. GOPers must be afraid of getting indicted themselves for taking Russian money, so they are dragging their collective feet for as long as possible, hoping (or planning?) that something will get in the way.

Republicans still have a good chance of keeping the Senate, but the White House is likely a goner.

And we'll maintain our House majority.

Republicans can start their comeback in 2022 with demagogues who aren't as overt as Trump. In other words, they'll go back to being the party that made Trump possible in the first place. We will need to be on guard against Trump 2.0, a more intelligent, articulate and charismatic demagogue.

For some strange reason the GOP really believes any losses they incur are because they're not extreme enough. If Trump takes them down in 2020, they'll be back in 2024 with Shirley Phelps-Roper...who they will believe will draw the liberal vote because she's a woman. (And, naturally, our campaign tactic of showing photos of Shirley standing in front of a military funeral holding a "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" sign will be seen as divisive.)

To make sure that they are forever banished from American politics is:

1. Secure the vote. Dems outnumber Reps, if votes are counted.
2. Get rid of Gerrymandering.... guarantees the house.
3. Figure out how to turn the tide in the rural states, gives us the senate.
4. Get out to vote !!! Seals their fate.

We need a long term plan to accomplish these 4 things.
