Hundreds of sex abuse allegations found in fundamental Baptist churches across U.S.

Joy Evans Ryder was 15 years old when she says her church youth director pinned her to his office floor and raped her.

“It’s OK. It’s OK,” he told her. “You don’t have to be afraid of anything.”

He straddled her with his knees, and she looked off into the corner, crying and thinking, “This isn’t how my mom said it was supposed to be.”

The youth director, Dave Hyles, was the son of the charismatic pastor of First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana, considered at the time the flagship for thousands of loosely affiliated independent fundamental Baptist churches and universities.

None of them good. All of them offensive. The number of boys and girls, men and women raped by representatives of god being godly and good pastors is innumerable. There numbers are legion.

It does begat some questions. None of them nice. All of them would be considered offensive to Christians or other followers of any religion that use their position and title to abuse their power over others.

A South Carolina church volunteer who police say was recorded sexually assaulting a 3-year-old boy in a bathroom now faces eight additional charges.

Hazlett supervised the care of 3- to 5-year-olds at the North Charleston NewSpring Church. A lawsuit against the church says 90 days of stored images where Hazlett volunteered showed him abusing at least 14 children.

Evangelical Right has gone from tolerating and covering up sexual abuse to overt endorsement (Hassert, Trump, Roy Moore, Kavenaugh,...)
