Ilhan Omar tells pastor 'you're gonna have to just deal' with her hijab on the House floor

Love these new badass young women!

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/12/9/1818014/-Ilhan-Omar-tells-pastor-you-re-gonna-have-to-just-deal-with-her-hijab-on-the-House-floor?detail=emailLL

E.W. Jackson, a conservative pastor who claims he is not Islamaphobic, expressed his horror that Democratic legislators are hoping to reverse a ban prohibiting headwear from being worn on the House floor in his radio show. For people who wear headwear for religious reasons, this rule creates an obvious problem. But as The Hill first reported, Jackson expressed his concerns on his radio program and, well, they’re pretty Islamaphobic.

"The floor of Congress is now going to look like an Islamic republic," Jackson said. "We are a Judeo-Christian country. We are a nation rooted and grounded in Christianity and that's that."

Representative-elect Ilhan Omar, one of the first Muslim women to enter Congress, has become the face of the movement to have this rule reversed. So it’ s no surprise she responded to Jackson’s comments.

Ilhan Omar Retweeted The Hill (in response to Jackson's tweet below)

Well sir, the floor of Congress is going to look like America...

And you’re gonna have to just deal

And one more thing. People who make statements like this, "We are a nation rooted and grounded in Christianity and that's that," seem to be unaware that Native Americans were not Christian and were here long before they were. They seem to be missing a vast amount of American history.

...by wearing a yarmulka for awhile -- after all, if we are indeed "a Judeo-Christian country" as the pastor states, Jewish men should certainly be allowed to wear headgear in the House, and how would Jackson like them apples?

What is the precise and relevant difference in visiting dignitaries vs. members of congress in regards to appropriate attire inside the building, and where is that statute found?

We are most certainly NOT a secular nation. Before the part about freedom of speech, it starts out:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...

How many legislators wear a cross on their lapel? I would bet that at least some legislators who are practicing Roman Catholics have a rosary somewhere on their person. The word is (I have NOT personally checked this) that George Romney wears special Mormon underwear.

We have more Christian sects (denominations) than I can count, several forms of Judaism, a couple of different forms of Muslim, Taoists, Buddhists, and on and on. Plus Agnostics and Atheists. And, of course, the flying spaghetti monster.

I have no idea what judges wear under their robes.

As long as our legislators uphold their oath of office to 'protect and defend the Constitution' rather than 'protect and defend my religion' I don't care what religion they are or what they wear to the office, so long as it is office appropriate.

next is the niqab that just leaves the eyes exposed, and next is the burqa that covers everything from top to bottom leaving just a mesh for the eyes. Taliban is using them.

I don't know why all of a sudden she changed her cover from a hat to hijab but radicalization could be one reason. Why should ACO get all the attention?

(I miss the days when well known figures like Hillary and Franken just took the back seats to be quiet and to learn as newly elected senators. Ted Cruz certainly did not follow this route, neither does Harris, but that just me..)

at a black Muslim female Congresswoman.

Think of the rush of heat rushing about the super white body of the one who absolutely had to make it public A.S.A.P. What fun. Give the other racists something to gibber about, to try to use against Democrats, liberals, anyone who has differing religious beliefs.

Enough to make a maggot gag.

This is not our first rodeo, for thinly "disguised" trashy attacks on progressives and people of color, but our last one should have been long ago. This dead horse has been beaten far too long.

The awkward, clumsy muddling around attempts to try to explain away racism, xenophobia, bigotry are always well-worn, there hasn't been a new one in so many years. No one is ever fooled, and the contempt grows.

The challenge is to try to remember the screen-names in order to be able to recognize them on sight the next time they bumble into view.

Omar's submission to Islamic patriarchy doesn't make her a "badass" in my opinion, it makes her a tool.

Me and my Jewish friends have been dealing with assholes like Jackson our entire lives, but the US, for all intents and purposes, is a Christian country. Xmas being a national holiday is a good example.
