Jared Kushner doesn't like Christie because he put Kushner Sr in prison. But Red Don still wanted his old pal.

It was MANAFORT who put Pence in there. Don't you ever wonder WHY?

I simply don't agree. No VP taking over for any president run out of town is ever going to have any influence over the direction of the country, particularly with the other side controlling the house.

He'd be nothing.

However, your statement that "No VP taking over for any president run out of town is ever going to have any influence...." is an absolute. I had the same confidence about Trump and his chances for election two years ago. That confidence was misplaced. Never say never and all of that.

The pasty, white shadow could be as or more dangerous than 45 once he found himself sitting behind Resolute. Who knows what kind of national realignment he could muster, especially given that many Americans don't have much of a political memory anyway? What if some event, contrived or not, caused a shift in support? Yeah, me too, not likely but I'll stay wary.

Like many folks, that vague, plexic gnawing is still there after two years. So without a crystal ball, my caution remains.

So, that might be the start of our disconnect.

I certainly expected HRC to win, and wanted that, but i was not anticipating a landslide refutation of his lying nonsense.

But, his one and only path to victory was a cult of personality, and Pence clearly doesn't have that.

You say i'm speaking in absolutes, but PINO never ran for office before and became POTUS. Pence is a career politician and the people in his own state said good riddance. There isn't much cult of personality power there.

Among other things, Pence doesn’t provoke the revulsion in most Republicans that Trump does. In fact, his calm demeanor could be seen by many Republicans - and even some Democrats - as a refreshing change from the train wreck we have now. I have no doubt that he could very likely be able to fool a majority of Americans exhausted from this ordeal long enough to vote for him in 2020. And while Pence is not the complete mess of a Trump, his policies are completely consistent with his and would likely continue - and Pence has the experience, knowledge and savvy to get things done.

Do. Not. Underestimate. Him.

Be careful what you wish for - you might just get it.

and get up to speed. Like Trump, he's no genius and doesn't have a good work ethic. He would surround himself with GOP and RW religious hangers-on and would go nowhere. Gerald Ford was a skilled legislator and was so damaged by the Nixon fallout that he accomplished nothing. Pence doesn't have Fords skills, is involved in much of the Trump malfeasance, and today's media cycle would eat Pence alive.

The Russians have Kompromat on him.

He's a priggish Evangelist. Maybe he's had a gay lover or a love child somewhere, or took a bribe somewhere along his political career.

Pence may not even know if the Russians have video or audiotapes or documents that could take him down. But when the Russians need him, they could reveal what they have and totally control him, as they already control Trump.

If he's recently been told of this, it could explain the deer in the headlight looks today, too.

He's farther right wing than Trump, has a Torquemada complex, and has an attention span that would enable him to focus on his evil agenda.

We need to get rid of them both at once or tolerate Trump for another 18 months at least.

I can’t believe that people are actually pushing the “Oh, c’mon. How bad Pence can Pence be?” just two years after the “Oh, c’mon. How bad can Trump be?” experiment blew up America's face.

Personally I think the fear of him is overblown. Sure he can replace Trump after he gets impeached but there's just no way he'll be able to harness the fanaticism of the MAGA fanboys that propelled him to power.

Others have laid out why Pence himself is a dangerous character but it's the voters I'm afraid of. I don't trust anybody that "just discovered" the Republicans are slime balls. These, imho, are people just waiting in the cut for another low key scumbag to back.

Pence is just low key and sane enough that voters who "left" the party would readily convince themselves to vote for him. They'd then use that as a springboard to go right back to backing republicans on the whole because it's "new day", or some such shit, for the republican party. They pretend that last 2-4 years didn't happen the same way that Bush didn't happen and Regan is some sort of demigod.

The simple fact that every day Pence has been VP has been a day that their has been a mini trump scandal is a day that he has sat on the deck of the Titanic next to the lifeboats while looking at the iceberg. He's been an active participant via support of trump as this whole shitshow has gone down.

Don't trust him and don't trust "enlightened voters" to not screw us all again.
